Hi, I’m Jessica. I’m a collage and mixed media artist, a mom, a witch, a collector of old and forgotten things, and someone who really freakin’ loves birds.

The Molting Hour came out of all of those things.

We’ll spend the evening making anthropomorphic bird spirits inside shadowboxes using old paper, collage, feathers, poetry, and found objects. You’re welcome to bring whatever you’d like, but I’ll have plenty of stuff to use so you don’t have to bring anything.

Birds have always carried so much symbolism. Migration. Freedom. Perspective. Instinct. Finding your way home. And, depending on the bird, being a loud little asshole in a parking lot.

Your bird can represent something you recognize in yourself, something you’re becoming, or something you need right now. Give it clothes. A name. A story. A tiny house. Make it beautiful or strange or funny or a little unsettling.

Then we molt.

Birds shed old feathers so new ones can grow. Under the full moon, we’ll borrow that ritual for ourselves.

You’ll have the option to write something you’re ready to release on a paper feather and leave it behind.

Words have power. Choosing them intentionally has power too.

This isn’t therapy, and you don’t need to be an artist.

It’s a night of making things with our hands, storytelling, ritual, and paying attention to the natural world and ourselves.
